ABURI – MAMPONG ESCAPADE

Take a trip to the beautiful hills of the Akwapim traditional area.  Visit the Aburi Botanical Gardens established in 1890.  Relax under the canopy of huge trees and learn about tropical plants.  Continue to Mampong Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine to learn about herbal medical science. AKOSOMBO DAM AND SHAI HILLS

Depart early for a visit of the Shai Hills Resource Centre.  Trek to the ancestral caves of the  ancient Shai people.  The Resource Reserve is home to several animals such as baboons etc.

RAIN FOREST AND CASTLE TOUR

Depart Accra after breakfast for Cape Coast. Drive along the coast through several fishing villages. Visit the Kakum National Park for a walk through one of the remaining vestiges of the Rain forest. Experience the exciting Canopy walkway  suspended over 100 feet from the forest floor with a paranomic view of the flora of the rain forest.

Continue after lunch to visit the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1652. This Castle served as the seat of the British Colonial government in the then Gold Coast (Ghana’s Colonial name) till 1877 and the West African Museum.  The Castle became a major trading port during the Slave Trade. The guide will conduct you to the slave quarters and Negotiation Hall where captives were bargained for and sold. Return to Accra.

BOTANICAL GARDENS AND DAM TOUR

Depart Accra after breakfast for Aburi in the Akwapim Ridge in the Eastern Region. Visit the Aburi Botanical Garden established in 1890 as a convalescent for British Colonial officers governing the then Gold Coast now Ghana. The Botanical Gardens were designed for  scientific research and pleasure. It is a habitat for plants from all over the world. Over the years, the Gardens has cultured a variety of tropical plants which attract many birds and butterflies.
Continue to visit Akosombo Dam site. The Akosombo Dam was built on the Volta, the largest river in Ghana. Have a conducted tour of the Akosombo Dam and Hydro Electric Generating Plant which generates for most parts of Ghana. Return to Accra.
