LOCATION:
Nestling
on the slopes of Kamatongu Hill, the cottages of the Aberdare Country
Club offer splendid views of the plains below with the Aberdare
range of mountains to the West and Mt Kenya to the East. Originally
the private residence of a wealthy English family, the house was
called Steep, the main building consisting of the present
dining room, lounge and bar, built in the early 30s with a
total of 6 bedrooms.
The Club now has 46 guest rooms, and is situated on 1,300 acres
of now electrically fenced private land, home to several species
of plains game. To be found in this beautiful sanctuary are eland,
waterbuck, giraffe, zebra, impala, ostrich, warthog, bush pig and
two leopards. The Aberdare Country Club is a haven of unhurried
charm, set in gardens bursting with the profuse colour of over one
hundred species of flowers. Tables are scattered, and the numerous
birdbaths dotting the grounds are visited by many different varieties
of birds.

ACCOMMODATION:
The
Club has a total of 46 en-suite rooms, of which 19 are double
bedded and 29 are twin bedded. 38 of the guest rooms are in
cottages with 2 bedrooms with interconnecting doors. Most
guest rooms have fireplaces. Some of the guest rooms can be
converted to triples. 9 extra beds are available. Honeysuckle
Cottage set above the main building comprises of one
double-bedded room, one twin-bedded room and one single room,
in a cottage on its own, with two separate bathrooms.
Each
room is furnished with bedside tables, dressing tables, built-in
wardrobes, rugs, coffee tables and lounge chairs; telephone;
water flasks and drinking glasses; umbrella; tea and coffee
making facilities; bible. Each bathroom has 115\240 v shaving
socket; shower stall, separate bathtub, washbasin and flush
toilets. Room 1 and rooms 7 to 17 have baths with shower attachments
(no separate shower stalls); shampoo, bath and shower gel;
freshly laundered towels; hot and cold running water. |

HOTEL FACILITIES & SERVICES:
Located
in the main building, the main dining room is divided into
5 sections, 3 of which are inside and have fireplaces. Two
verandahs, one which seats 50 and the other 16, have lovely
views of the grounds and rolling hills beyond. The menu is
a cosmopolitan combination of European, African and Asian
dishes, made from the abundance of fresh Kenyan produce. A
full vegetarian menu is available for all the meals. Both
breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, while dinner
is Table dhôte, with a choice of main courses.
Afternoon tea/coffee is served with pastries and cakes on
the terrace. Seating Capacity is 220 people for lunch (including
the terrace) and 120 for breakfast and dinner. The dining
room is open for breakfast from 0700 to 0930 hours, for lunch
from 1245 to 1430 hours, for tea from 1600 to 1730 hours and
for dinner from 2000 to 2130 hours.
Also located in the main building, next to the dining room,
the Gura Bar has two fireplaces, which are lit throughout
cool days. Comfortable leather settees and velvet armoires
are set in cosy sections, while bar stools surround the bar.
Animal carvings and shields received from regiments who have
visited the Club animate the bar, which also extends to the
terrace. The television lounge is situated in a small room
behind the bar, and sports satellite television and comfortable
chairs for easy viewing. Liqueurs, beers, soft drinks, fresh
juices, cocktails, wines, spirits, tea and coffee are all
served here. The seating capacity is 60 people seated in the
room. The Gura Bar is open from 0800 to 1400 hours, and 1800
to 2200 hours.
Located at the swimming pool, this bar is set on a raised
platform with high stools, around the geometric bar and has
a commanding view of the game sanctuary. Beers, soft drinks
are all served. Seating Capacity is unlimited. The swimming
pool bar is open from 1000 to 1800 hours.
The Aberdare Country Club has proven to be a popular venue
for conferences. A choice of three conference rooms is available.
If conference participants are residents of the Club, no charge
is made for hire of the rooms. Each room is set with water-jugs
and glasses, and is equipped with telephones. Tea/coffee is
served in the morning and afternoon free of charge. Running
tea / coffee is available upon request, at an additional cost.
BUSINESS
CENTRE
We have a fully equipped Business Centre with e-mail and internet
access, secretarial and photocopy services available to guests.
CONFERENCE EQUIPMENT
Video cassette player, television, overhead projector, flip
chart, a projection screen, slide projector and public address
system are available for use. Notepads and pens / pencils
are also available free of charge. A nominal charge is made
for audio-visual equipment.
THE
ABERDARE ROOM
Large windows with a view of Mt Kenya on clear days let in
plenty of natural light. There is also a small adjoining room
ideal for the secretary who may be joining you. The room has
its own washrooms, and the patio is ideal for tea/coffee breaks.
THE
SATIMA ROOM
Set in a secluded corner of the front lawns, the entrance
to the Conference room is a pleasant garden patio. This room
is also used to play childrens videos. The room has
a fireplace and washrooms. |
