Authentic South (Mahebourg village, Biscuit Factory, Ile aux Aigrettes, La Vanille Réserve Des Mascareignes) Deep in the heart of a small suburb of Mahebourg, discover a unique handicraft manioc biscuit factory, over 125 years old. Then proceed to Pointe d’Esny to go to Ile aux Aigrettes by boat. It is the last refuge of the Ebony forest, endemic animals & plant species. Finish the day by visiting La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes. This park homes giant tortoises, reptiles, crocodiles and an impressive collection of butterflies and insects. The old and the new mingle through the contrast between the high-rise, the modern shopping centre of the Caudan Waterfront and the still existing colonial buildings. Have lunch at L’escale Restaurant. Visit of the sugar Museum at the “Sugar Adventure” before taking a breath of fresh air at Pamplemousses Botanical Garden. Have lunch at “Domaine les Pailles”, where the French colonial way of life and habitat have been re-created. A replica of the first sugar mill, the rum distillery and the spice garden, will amaze you. Curepipe, the second most important town is the heaven of shopping lovers. Shopping can be done in the factory and duty free shops of Floréal. Cashmere, carpets, jewellery, ready made clothes are available and good value for money. There will be a stop in Curepipe at the ship model factory. Ship models from Mauritius are quite famous. When shopping is over in Floréal, there will be a short visit of Curepipe and Trou aux Cerfs, an extinct crater situated at 650 metres above sea level. It offers a beautiful view on the Moka range and right up to the sea. From Curepipe proceed to Grand Bassin or Ganga Talao, a sacred place of worship to the Hindu community. It is a crater lake surrounded by luxuriant forests. Drive along the National Park to see Black River Gorges where endemic forests are the natural habitat of protected fauna and flora species. The final stops will be Chamarel Cascade and the Coloured Earth, before starting on the way back. Visit of the impressive and splendid colonial mansion of Les Aubineaux, the home of a tea-estate owner. After a drive along tea-plantations watch the tea making process at the factory of Bois Cheri and sample the different flavours of tea at the Chalet. Lunch at St Aubin, in an elegant and colonial environment will be a pleasurable moment. Have a glimpse at the anthurium greenhouse, the Vanilla House and the Rum-House.
