The Southeast region is where the civilisation of the island started with the first settlers, the Dutch. The French created the first port in the natural Harbour of Mahebourg. The area is full of vestiges from our history.

Leave the hotel for the village of Mahebourg.

You will visit the Naval Museum, located in a French colonial mansion, which contains various objects found in the numerous wreckage surrounding the island. This mansion hosted the English and French naval commanders Willoughby and Duperré who were wounded during the Battle of Vieux Grand Port in 1810.

Proceed to the village of Mahebourg to have a glimpse at the life of the Mauritians with freesome time for shopping and taking some pictures. The lagoon is quite impressive in that area and the monument dedicated to the soldiers who fought during the battle of Vieux Grand Port, as well as the monument for the abolition of slavery can be seen.

Drive through the coastal villages in the direction of the Domaine du Chasseur.

On the way, you will see monuments and ruins from the Dutch and French colonial periods. At the Domaine du Chasseur, you will be welcomed by the hostess and will proceed to the restaurant of your choice for lunch.

Stroll in the 1000 acres of land where you will discover the habitat of hundreds of Javanese stags, wild boars, monkeys and thousands of birds among which the nearly extinct Mauritian Kestrel.

Leave the Domaine to get back to the hotel. Lunch is normally served in two different restaurants:

La Crecerelle
Near the welcome house in tropical vegetation.
Le Panoramour
On the hill at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level with a view of the Southeast lagoon and islets.

Menu
Fresh Palm Heart Salad of the Domain or Fresh Seafood Salad – Venison Curry accompanied with Chutneys, Salads and Pickles – White Rice – Sliced Grilled Pineapple – percolated Coffee of the Domain – ½ Bottle of wine and ½ Bottle of Water per person. Tasting of the old rum of the domain is also included
