HOTEL FACILITIES: The Serail at Riad Ifoulki In the traditional Arabic household of a ruling family, the serail was the "harem", the living quarters reserved for wives and concubines, children and female relatives. The term harem comes from the Arabic Haram. This means that which is forbidden or kept safe. This is where the women could enjoy life; this is where the mysticism of the Arabic culture originated from. An inkling of this earlier life can be felt in our courtyards even today. However, in contrast to the past, the serail in Ifoulki today is a truly lavish living experience for the whole family of two to four persons. Two double rooms with large antique brass four-poster beds, a common bathroom, a Moroccan salon and a private loggia (covered balcony) form the ensemble.
The salons & patios at Riad Ifoulki The word "riad" in Arabic الرياض, ar-Riyāḍ, means "the gardens". It designates a traditional Arabic courtyard house with an interior garden - the patio or inner courtyard. Today the word "riad" is used in Morocco as a touristic term for a guest house or small hotel. In Riad Ifoulki, the original meaning of the term "riad" still applies: the entire hotel consists of five courtyard houses combined to create one complex. Two of the five inner courtyards have retained the same function as in the past. A fountain, surrounded by orange trees, flowers and palms, gurgles at the centre of the courtyard. In the context of social life in a riad, the salon is considered the heart of the house. This is where guests are welcomed. Riad Ifoulki‘s salons, with their lavish ambience, provide refined entertainment even today. Dinners are served in one of the large salons and a second salon is availa.
The culinary delights at Riad Ifoulki Morocco is a marvellous country, over which several rulers fought even in ancient times. Although this has not always been beneficial for the nation, it has nevertheless been advantageous for its cuisine. A blend of Islamic, African, Jewish and European traditions delights every visitor. The Arabic Bedouin cuisine used dates, grain, bread , milk and spices, such as cardamom and coriander. The use of olive oil, almonds as well as fruits are a legacy of the Moors. The dishes tajine, couscous and harira originated from the Berbers. In fact, a tajine is an earthenware vessel, in which the most delicious stews are prepared featuring meat, fish or poultry, gently simmering with vegetables. You must, of course also try the couscous and the Moroccan salads, which are colourful platters of cooked vegetables. Our cook at Riad Ifoulki looks forward to pampering your taste buds with all these delicious preparations.
The terraces at Riad Ifoulki Our terraces are the gateway to the sky and the sun. This is where our guests replenish their energy levels. Some read more than they ever expected to. Others play cards or struggle with words that adequately convey an impression of their holidays to their loved ones. Up here it is holiday. The view of the medina with its thousands of roofs, terraces and antennas is fascinating. And in winter, during clear weather, you can get a fantastic view of the often snowcapped High Atlas. Breakfast is served on the terrace and, on quiet summer nights, even the dinner is served here. Sometimes other things also take place here - friendships are established and dreams are decided upon here; and occasionally, the Arabic crescent moon in the firmament is particularly conducive for making a marriage proposal.
Wellness at Riad Ifoulki To give the body, mind and soul a break from everyday life is the motto of our hammam (steam bath) and the gentle massages by our masseur. No other room has inspired the fantasy of the Westerner about the Orient more, than the hammam. Under a sparsely-lit large dome, clouds of steam wrap the bodies of men and women, who have, as if in a trance, been lulled into a sense of sublime pleasure. This feeling of pleasure has several reasons: The wonderfully warm water washes away all the stresses from the pores. The fragrances of the many oils soothe both mind and body. The diffused light abolishes the passing of time. With every breath, the damp air appears to cleanse, as it were, both inside and outside. In our "Espace" Massage, we offer you a wonderful massage for general wellbeing. You will be pampered with a full body massage in a soft candlelit room, filled with oriental fragrances and accompanied by soothing music.
