SEYCHELLES GENERAL INFORMATION
La Digue .Mill ions of years ago as India gradually drifted away from African continent, the Seychelles Archipelago remained poised in magnificent isolation in the warm, crystal waters of the Indian Ocean Between 4" to 10" south of the Equator. Like pearls on a thread of 1,400,000 spq.km. of azure ocean , Seychelles comprises a nucleus of 41 spestacular granatic islands, the cultural hub of the nation, and 74 sparking sands cays and out the way atolls. Together, these form 6 districts groups: the islands the Armirantes, Southern Coral, Alphonse, Farquhar, and Aldabar all lying between 480km and 1600 km from the east African Coast.Seychelles’ 115 islands fall into two distinct groups, the granitic Inner Islands that lie within the relatively shallow Seychelles plateau, 4° south of the equator, and the low-lying coralline Outer Islands that lie after the plateau up to 10° south of the equator. The Outer Islands are themselves further divided into five groups, extending in a gleaming arc towards the east coast of Africa : the Amirantes group lying 230km distant from Mahé, the Southern Coral Group, Alphonse Group, Farquhar Group and finally the Aldabra Group, some 1150km from Mahé.  There are 43 Inner Islands -- 41 granitic and 2 coralline.  All 72 Outer Islands are coralline

THE ISLANDS

There are 43 Inner Islands, 41 granatic and 2 coraline. All 72 Outer Islands are coraline.

THE GRANATIC ISLAND MAHÉ
Mahé
Surrounded by coral reefs, this is the largest of the islands and hosts the international airport, the port and capital (Victoria), the majority of the population (90 per cent) and most of the hotels. It is an island of powdery white sands (there are almost 70 beaches on Mahé alone) and lush vegetation, rising through plantations of coconut palms and cinnamon to forested peaks that afford unparalleled views of neighboring islands. Excursions can be made in glass-bottomed boats from Victoria to nearby St Anne Marine National Park, which encloses the islands of St Anne, Beacon (classified as a nature reserve), Cerf (offering accommodation in chalets and renowned for Creole food), Long (closed to the public), Round (reputed for its tuna steaks) and Moyenne (privately owned, but open to visiting tourists); or by coach, taking in such attractions as the market, the Botanical Gardens (with coco-de-mer, giant tortoises and orchids), and a replica of London’s Vauxhall Bridge Tower in Victoria, before setting off around the island to visit colonial-style mansions in graceful decline, old plantations of cinnamon and vanilla, and everywhere the greenest of vibrant green jungles. Tourists may also visit the Morne Seychellois National Park, occupying the highest part of the island. The National Museum in Victoria celebrates Seychellois history, folklore and music, and has particularly fine displays depicting the history of spice cultivation.
SEYCHELLES INNER ISLAND

The granitic islands of Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue together with their satellites from the cultural heart of the archipelago. Gateway to Seychelles and home to the International Airport.Anse Source d'Argent harbours a rich underwater world. Praslin's legendary Coco-de-mer nut grows on ancient giant palms in the wondrous Vallee de Mai Forest. Time stands still on La Digue where on-carts hold sway on the paths to the dream beach of Anse La Sourced Argent. The Norternmost coral islands of Bird Island and Denis Island offer unforgettable sights of the turtles nesting on ivory sands and, on Bird Island, of millions of sooty terns, which colonise part of the island every year. East of Mahe lies Fregate, showcase for several endemic species of fauna. Unhurried
