HOTEL DESCRIPTION: Perched on top of the cliffs at Hermanus, The Marine has one of the southern hemisphere's most spectacular seascapes. The Marine has 42 individually decorated bedrooms and suites, each with its own private facilities. Commanding views extend across Walker Bay or over the beautiful internal courtyard, finely manicured gardens and the Overberg Mountains.

Stroll along the cliff hugging path and take in our breath taking views of the Hermanus Bay. The sparkling, heated courtyard pool might beckon, perfect for catching some African sun or sip a glass of local wine in The Sun Lounge with nothing between you and the South Pole, other than 3,000 miles of ocean. Hermanus offers some of the best land-based whale watching in the world and at The Marine you don't even have to get out of bed to experience these amazing creatures!

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION: Premier Suites: Eight magnificently and individually decorated suites all have varied views of the sea. The biggest of these suites features a large Georgian style bay window, and is on two levels, which includes a spacious seating area downstairs with picture windows overlooking Walker Bay. Two of these suites have balconies, whilst five occupy a split-level and two have a working fireplace.
Luxury Doubles Five of these rooms are sea view whilst one opens onto a mountain view balcony / patio which overlooks the pool and the other having a side sea view on the west wing. Three of the sea facing rooms have balconies and one is wheelchair friendly. All the rooms are magnificently and uniquely decorated in superb fabrics of floral and heavy silks.
Suites Six of these luxurious suites have wonderful sea views, the other being a spacious side sea view suite. Each suite has been traditionally, yet stylishly and individually decorated and has a large lounge. Two of the suites are set on a split-level, one has a balcony and one a four poster bed.

HOTEL FACILITIES: The Pavilion: The Pavilion at The Marine is relaxed and informal, but with an understated elegance. The view of the sea is exceptional and adds another dimension to the dining experience. During the months of June to December diners can view the whales from their table. It serves an array of the highest quality dishes the new progressive South African menu with French flavours that highlight the creative talents of a superb culinary team. The Pavilion is open for dinner five nights a week, Tuesday through Saturday, open every morning for breakfast and closed for dinner during winter from mid April to mid August. The magnificent wall and ceiling lamps in this elegant restaurant are the originals which once graced the Bathing Pavilion at Muizenberg.

Seafood at The Marine Liz McGrath's inspiration for Seafood at The Marine came about after a chance visit to the seafood counter at Harrods in London. Seafood is a bright restaurant in the modern idiom. The style is informal and busy, serving contemporary relaxed seafare, with the emphasis on the freshness of the fish from Walker Bay, great style and friendly service. The open kitchen, with its young talented chefs, provides diners with a close-up view of the frenetic activity. The Seafood is modern yet has a relaxed feel to it. The new floating glass wall panel with a wave design and beautiful lighting is a feature of The Seafood. The restaurant is warm, sophisticated, personalized and inviting. Subtle warm lighting, bold graphic pots, black and white photography, floating bulkhead, wave designed glass screen and glass sculpture all add up to a visual feast to pre-empt the culinary feast. The Seafood at the Marine, is open daily for lunch and dinner.

The Sun Lounge: On entering the hotel, guests can enjoy enticing views of the sea and the warm inviting lounge. The vast expanse of Walker Bay is drawn into the reception area, bringing light and amplifying the space. A sophisticated cocktail bar and a lounge is available for both hotel residents and local visitors to relax and enjoy the view.

Wine Cellar: The Wine Cellar at The Marine is completely unique and is the central feature of The Pavilion restaurant. It is a floating Cellar stocked with the best of South Africa's wines with an emphasis on the wines from the Walker Bay region.

Conferences: The hotel conference room for small private functions, The Terrace Room, is adjacent to the swimming pool in the courtyard. From May to early September we welcome private lunch and dinner bookings in The Pavilion Restaurant, which can accommodate 80 guests.

Heated Salt Water Pool: Our heated swimming pool is salt-chlorinated. Towels are provided for use around the pool area and an outside shower is available. During the day a waiter is on hand to cater to your every need, and to assist you with lunch and cocktail orders.
