Formally the home of Mickey Reilly, one of Swaziland's earliest white settlers and a highly entrepreneurial man, the main building was built of stone in exchange for an ox-wagon in the early 1900's.
The house has remained in the family and has recently been transformed into a unique hilltop lodge tastefully decorated in keeping with its colonial roots. Notwithstanding the necessary subtle additions and renovations, the house still stands as it was built almost a century ago.
Reilly's Rock is situated on the Mlilwane Hill within the tranquil safety of Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, approximately 3 km from the Rest Camp and 1.5 km from the Sangweni Entrance Gate.
The lodge is surrounded by beautiful natural gardens and terraced lawns, with a unique panoramic view of the Ezulwini Valley, complete with game-studded plains, Royal Residences and the distant sacred Mdzimba Mountain range. Tame animals wander across the lawns, bush babies pratically own the place, and the Swazi national bird, the Purple-crested Turaco, drinks daily at the natural rock bird bath.

The original house has 4 bedrooms, all accessible from the veranda. 2 of these rooms are "standard rooms" with double beds and private ablutions across the veranda, about 1 metre from each bedroom door, while the third is the main room, Reilly's Room, complete with fireplace and en-suite bath and toilet. The fourth ensuite room is a seperate building just off the wide verandah to the north of the office. Totally separeate from the main house is the cottage which is totally encircled by a wide veranda. The cottage has 2 en-suite rooms with a communal lounge and fireplace.

HOTEL FACILITIES AND AMENITIES

A large reception and communal lounge area greets the visitor on arrival. This is linked to the original house by an external covered veranda. The dining area forms the core of the house, furnished with homemade local hard wood furniture - the wood having been saved from piles of cleared bush on new sugarcane land. Reilly's Rock is offered on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis (rates also include the entrance to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary). Light lunches and teas are available on request. Except for occasions of adverse weather, most meals are served outdoors. Dinners are usually around the campfire below the house, while breakfasts are a special treat for birdwatchers, as they are on the patio adjoining the lawn with its water feature, shrubs and trees, and magnificent view over the surrounding countryside.
