Location: Nkwali is located on Robin Pope's private land, overlooking the National Park. This beautiful area of ebony woodland and open grassland offers superb game viewing. Elephants regularly cross the Luangwa, which can be seen from the bar, shaded by a huge mahogany tree, or they come to drink at the waterhole near the thatched dining room. The 6 chalets, overlooking the river, are cool and spacious and have open air en suite bathroom. Access to the park is by boat or our nearby pontoon. The area is famous for leopard and the indigenous Thornicroft's giraffe.
Accommodation:The six guest rooms are made of woven bamboo and thatch. They are airy and cool with open-air ensuite bathrooms. The bar is built around an enormous ebony tree and the separate dining area overlooks a small lagoon which often attracts elephants and bushbuck down to drink. Nkwali also offers a swimming pool to cool off in on those warm lazy afternoons.
Dining: The thatched dining room sits in a parkland of large riverine trees and is located quite close to a waterhole that often attracts game during breakfast. The en-suite chalets are made of thatch and woven bamboo, are cool and spacious, each with an excellent view onto the Luangwa River.
Activities: Activities at Nkwali Camp are very much focused on the Mfuwe Sector's abundance of wildlife, with game drives in open safari vehicles being the mainstay. Guests are taken out in the specially adapted four wheel drive vehicles by qualified and knowledgeable professional guides. Guided night drives are also conducted, with the opportunity to see various of the nocturnal species that take over once the sun has set. South Luangwa game walks, considered by many to be the best in Southern Africa, are led by a qualified guide and accompanied by an armed game scout, offer an even more intimate bush experience.
