ABOUT ARGENTINA
Argentina is a remarkable medley of shades, colors and contrasts wrapped in a single package. Big. Mysterious. Melancholy, yet fun-loving. Uncomplicated, yet complex. Argentina and its people combine all of these traits: a blend of the sophisticated and the basic, the modern and the seasoned, the wild and the cultured. To the average tourist from North America and even Europe, Argentina remains largely a mythical and undiscovered country. But it is there, patiently waiting to be discovered and explored: the pulsing excitement of Buenos Aires, the wild plains country of the central pampas; the spectacular sweep of Iguazu Falls and the Patagonian glaciers, blue lakes and green valleys. It is a delightful paradox beckoning the traveler with its unspoiled natural wonders, great beauty, friendliness, and that special thrill of discovering something completely new, unique, never experienced.

Population: Argentina has a low demographic density. It consists of around 36 millon people, mainly established in the urban centres. The 85% of the population is descendant of inmigrants from Europe. As opposed to most Latin American countries, in Argentina there are relatively few Indian half castes (people of mixed races: european and indian).

Almost half of the population of the country live in the Federal Capital and the province of Buenos Aires. The urban population makes up the 88% of the whole whereas the rural population represents the 22%.

The figures give us a population density of 13 inhabitants per km2 with an annual growing of 1,5 %.

Ethnic composition: 85% Caucasian, 12% European by birth, 3% non-Caucasian.
Religion: Roman Catholic is the official religion, but there is complete religious freedom guaranteed by the Constitution. Among the many religious communities found in Argentina, the Jewish community has more than 250,000 members, constituting one of the largest Jewish concentrations in the world.

Language: the official language is Spanish. English is widely spoken along the tourist circuits.Climate: Because Argentina is situated in the Southern Hemisphere, summer extends from November to March with daytime temperatures averaging 23 degrees centigrade (76F). In winter, which runs from May to August, the average daytime temperature is 12 degrees centigrade (54F).

Shopping: a vast selection of fine and exclusive merchandise can be found in any tourist center: furs, antiques and silverware, shoes, suede and leather apparel, jewelry, cashmeres and woolens, regional crafts. Buenos Aires, with its thousands of high quality shops, is the place to find French designer boutiques, modern galleries and sophisticated shopping malls.
