The two buildings that make up the hotel today were originally homes of the some of the firts settlers who were granted land rights by the Spanish crown. The homes later housed the personal guard of South American liberation hero Simon Bolivar. After a careful restoration and renovation which maintained tha magic of the original architecture of the historic buildings, the Hotel de la Opera opened its doors in 1997.

Hotel De La Opera enjoys a privileged location in the central Bogota neighbourhood of La Candelaria which is filled with historical and cultural landmarks.
The rich architectural heritage is evidenced by old Spanish-style homes with their signature foyers, interior patios and massive walls which were built in the 19th and early 20th centuries influenced by the neoclassic style, also known here as Republican style.
La Candelaria transcends time with historical sites, churches and antique wooden balconies intermingling with modern museums, art collections and libraries.
Hotel De La Opera is located on Calle 10, between Carrera 5 and 6, next to the Cristóbal Colón Theatre and across the street from the Palacio de San Carlos, which currently houses the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Also across the street is the Colonial Art Museum and just two blocks away is Bolivar Square and the National Cathedral. The Presidential Palace, known as the Casa de Narino, is just a few blocks further.
The hotel is 25 minutes by car from Eldorado International Airport.
