"From the Kindah Tree where Captain Cudjoe once held his war briefings over 200 years ago, to the wailing sound of the Abeng mixed with the rhythmic beat of the Gumbay Drum, the Accompong Maroon Settlement in St. Elizabeth is alive with the spirit of ancestors". Jamaica Observer, December 27, 2001. Each year on January 6, homage is paid to the ancestors of the Maroons in a celebration commemorating the birthday of Captain Cudjoe who defeated the English army and later signed the Peace Treaty with the British.
The Accompong Maroon Festival will feature traditional dancing, singing, Maroon feast and ceremonies, and of course the blowing of the Abeng and playing of the Maroon drums.

High Mountain Coffee 10K & 5K Road Races

*One of the premier events on the Jamaican road racing calender is the High Mountain Coffee 10K and 5K events (inaugurated 1983). Over the years overseas participation has increased since its inception and with the introduction of the 5-K race, younger athletes under 17 have also increased.
Planned Route
The 10-K- starts at the roundabout where the Winston Jones Highway begins, up the steeper part of that highway to the intersection with the Kendal Main Rd; down through Kendal and Shooters Hill and along the Kirkvine stretch, pass the gates to Alcan's Kirkvine Works/Head Office, to the Williamsfield Roundabout.The 5-K starts at the Williamsfield Roundabout, along the Content Main road stretch, looping through Alcan's Kirkvine Works/Head Office then back to the starting point in Williamsfield. |

The Negril Fat Tire Festival is on for February 3-5, 2006 at Good Hope, Negril Hills, Negril. The course will take competitors through the various terrain of the western coast of Jamaica from the white sand beach to the mountainous region.
A combination of healthy competition and pure Jamaican "vibe", the Negril Fat Tire Festival includes the Jamaican Downhill and XC National Championship.A celebration with live entertainment will wrap up the activities. You don't have to be a mountain bike racer to participate.
