SAND
DOLLAR FOR KIDS & FAMILIES: Bonaire offers visiting
families the unique opportunity to experience ecological and cultural
diversity in a safe haven. Visitors to Bonaire can enjoy the peace
of mind that comes with vacationing in a politically stable country,
where your family has a chance to explore all areas of the island,
mingle freely and safely with the welcoming Bonairean people, as
well as people from many diverse cultures.
Sand
Dollar and Bonaire Dive & Adventure offer a number of programs
and activities specially designed to enable children and families
to make the most of their time on Bonaire, both on property, in
the ocean, and via island wide excursions. Specific programs include:
The
Sand Penny ClubThe Sand Penny Club is a supervised children's program
that runs Monday to Friday from 8:15 am through noon and 1:00 pm
through 4:30 pm. The program is geared for children from 3 to 6
years old and features Arts & Crafts, Beach Time, Video Time,
Pool Time, and Sand Sculpting.
Parent(s)
should bring their child(ren) to the Front Desk at 8:15am. Please
be advised to dress your child(ren) appropriately with swim suits,
sneakers, hats and sun screen lotion.
MINIMUM
24 HOURS ADVANCE NOTICE REQUIRED.
Reef
Explorers - Children ages seven and older who are able to swim and
snorkel comfortably can make advanced reservations to participate
in a discovery-based program called Reef Explorers, offered by Marine
Biologist and PADI Scuba Instructor Caren Eckrich.
This adventure program offers the perfect balance of classroom time
and in-the-water time, and is sure to keep your kids enthused as
they learn hands-on about the ocean and its inhabitants.
ADVANCED
RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.
Visiting Teen Program Jong Bonaire, the islands after school teen
center, offers visiting teenagers between the ages of 12 and 18
an opportunity to spend afternoons meeting the local kids and participating
in sports or cultural activities.
Teens
can visit Monday through Friday from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m.
during the local school year. To make sure the center is open and
there is a Jong Bonaire member who speaks your language available
to act as your guide, you will need to notify the center of your
plans ahead of time.
What
Else is Special for Kids?
Bubblemakers:
This program gives kids a chance to experience breathing underwater--with
the close supervision of an instructor--in a maximum depth of six
feet. Must be 8 or older.
SASY:
(Supplied Air Snorkeling for Youth). Designed for kids six years
and up under adult supervision, SASY provides children uninterrupted
breathing while floating on the surface. The life-jacket style flotation
device holds a small compressed air tank, regulator, pressure gauge,
and is used without weights. SASY is a PADI-sanctioned activity.
Junior
Level Scuba Diving Courses: Children 10 and older are now able to
participate in dive courses ranging from Discover Scuba Diving through
full certification and beyond. Certain restrictions apply.
Adventures
Perfect for the Whole Family: Bonaire Dive & Adventure offers
a number of activities and adventures such as biking and kayaking
that appropriate for all ages!
Family-size CondominiumsFree Accommodations: 2 Children, 12 and
under may be added to any accommodation type shared with adults
free of charge.
Room for one and all: Our family sized condominiums were designed
to be your home away from home - not just your standard vacation
rental. All have air-conditioned bedrooms, breakfast bar and dining
area, fully equipped kitchen, in room safe, tropically decorated
living area and color cable TV. All units also have large private
porches or balconies.
What's
in the kitchen: All units, including the studios, have full size
refrigerators, microwave, dishwasher, stove, oven, coffee maker,
toaster, blender and a large assortment of cooking and serving supplies.
Dish and dishwasher soap is provided.
Bathroom
features: One private and spacious bathroom is provided for each
bedroom. Most units have full tubs in addition to a shower, and
a double sinked vanity with substantial storage space.
The
benefits of screens: All units are fully screened enabling you to
enjoy Bonaire's cooling breeze without concern for the occasional
(but annoying) mosquito visit.
Flexible
bedding arrangements: We'll tailor the bedding to fit the sleeping
arrangements your family prefers. Upon request, we can convert twin
beds into a king, or add a roll away to a bedroom if the existing
king or queen bedding options are not to be share. Cribs can be
added to any unit free of charge upon request.
Beach
towels: No need to pack your own, as extra large beach towels are
provided.
Family Friendly Property FeaturesBabysitters: Available for hire
24 hours a day with advanced notice.
Convenient
Parking: No need to park in a common lot and trudge with your groceries
and gear to your unit. At Sand Dollar, all condos offer overnight
parking directly in front.
Water
front Grills: If you don't feel like cooking in or going out to
dinner - feel free to use one of the two grills built expressly
for your convenience, right on the waterfront. Nothing beats a family
seaside BBQ!
Amenities Galore: Among the extras you and your family can enjoy
while at Sand Dollar are our two lighted tennis courts (proper tennis
shoes and attire please), swimming pool with 24 hour access, convenience
store, gift shop and Internet Cafe, bank with 24 hour ATM, and a
Lovers ice cream parlor.
Dining
& Kid Sized Meals: : Mango's pool side Restaurant offers a special
menu just for kids, as do many of the restaurants on Bonaire. Kids
sized portions, at kid sized prices.
