| ROOM FEATURES |
Introducing the Cottages at North Beach, eight exclusive oceanfront guestrooms located on the beach just North of the Victorian Building. In June 2001, The Del acquired the parcel of land know as the Goodman-Strauss Estate, representing 4.81 beachfront acres with two existing cottages adjacent to the resort. The Del then began the upgrading and redesigning of the cottages, which were built in 1956 and 1962, to create the ultimate in beachfront accommodations.
The interiors of the eight cottages were designed with a seaside palate and decorated with overstuffed chairs and bedding. Two of the cottages connect to a large living room with a fireplace, dining room table, wet bar and French doors opening onto a sun-splashed deck overlooking the Pacific.
The exteriors of the cottages were painted to compliment the adjacent Beach House (the private cottage Marilyn Monroe stayed in during the filming of Some Like It Hot) and designed with new windows and doors. The beachside patios were expanded, landscaped and furnished with Adirondack style furniture. The landscaping bordering the cottages have been enhanced with colorful flowers and manicured lawns.
In addition to current resort services, guests staying in the Cottages at North Beach will be treated to special amenities and services in the privacy of their cottage. The personal indulgences menu includes: drawn bath service; in-room facials and massage; personal trainer; honeymoon "do not disturb kit"; couples massage; candlelit four-course dinner and Hamilton Robusto cigar and cognac (additional charges associated with these services).
"The Cottages at North Beach have dramatically improved aesthetics of the former site both from the resort and beach perspective. The view corridors between the cottages take advantage of the spectacular Pacific views. Public access and circulation of this area has also been significantly improved by separating pedestrian and parking traffic. We believe the development of the cottages and surrounding area are representative of the key elements and objectives to enhance this national treasure," says Michael Hardisty, Managing Director.
The Hotel del Coronado, a National Historic Landmark, completed a $55 million restoration in June 2001. The dramatic enhancements include oceanfront dining venues and luxuriously redesigned and air-conditioned Victorian rooms. Adjoining the beachside façade of the historic Victorian Building, the Windsor Lawn stretches seaward, re-establishing The Del's connection to the Pacific. |
