Afghanistan is a landlocked country situated in Central Asia, South Asia, and is a part of the Greater Middle East. The country has a population of around 30 million inhabiting an area of approximately 652,000 sq km, making it the 42nd most populous and 41st largest nation in the world. Afghanistan is bordered by Pakistan in the south and the east, Iran in the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan in the north, and China in the far northeast.
Kabul is the capital city of Afghanistan and also the capital of Kabul Province. The official currency of Afghanistan is Afghani. Persian or Dari and Pashto are the official languages of Afghanistan. Other languages also spoken in the country are Uzbek, Turkmen, Balochi, Pashayi, and Nuristani. Afghanistan is a Muslim state; almost 99% of the population is Muslim. The remaining 1% of the population comprises Sikhs, Hindus, and Jews.
