Wat Si Saket, Vientiane, Laos
With over 6,840 Buddha images, Wat Si Saket was the most picturesque wats that we visited in Laos. Built in 1818 by Chao Anou, it is the oldest wat in Vientiane, thankfully spared by the Siamese (Thais) when they sacked the city. Apparently, the Siamese found the Thai style wat too beautiful to destroy. The wat is surrounded by dozens of stupas containing the ashes of temple devotees.
