The Hustain Nuruu Protected Area lies 100km southwest of Ulaanbaatar, and was established in 1993 to preserve Mongolia’s wild Takhi horses and the environment in which they live. This horse was unique to Mongolia where it existed until the 1960s. Since then, these beautiful animals have been reintroduced from captivity, and they have taken well to their freedom. They are not particularly afraid of humans and the harems (one stallion and several mares) will come quite close.

After all this drive back to modern time have a dinner and stay overnight at ger camp.

Day 1 Terelj National Park, Gunjiin sum temple.Drive to Terelj-Gorkhi National Park, a fascinating area about 80km to the east of Ulaanbaatar. Saddle up the horses, ride to the area of Tsagaan Suuliin Garam pass after an 18km ride. Be inspired by the surrounding wildflower meadows and the soaring mountains above. Stop for lunch. Ride on to the Gyalalzakh area, 17 km away, through the fertile valleys and mountains of the Hentii mountain range. Overnigh in camp in Gyalalzakh area.
Day 2 Gunjiin sum. Arrive at the Gunjiin Sum Buddhist temple. Here lies the grave of Queen of the Mongolian ‘Ephu’ king Dondovdorj, who was married to the sixth daughter of a Manchu king. Dondovdorj built the temple in 1740 after the death of his queen. It is his monument to the woman who had once been awarded the title of “Diligent and Kind”, and who was poisoned by the Manchus after she displeased them with her support of the Mongolian people. Ride back to Terelj area, overnight in Terelj camp.     
Day 3 Ulaanbaatar. Complete the ride back to the camp at Terelj. Drive back to UB and transfer to the hotel.

16th century. Visit to the symbolic ruins of Karakorum, the 13th century capital of the Mongol Empire. Return to the base camp for dinner and overnight in gers.
Day 3 Ulaanbaatar.Breakfast at base camp. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Enroute, visit Hustain Nuruu Protected Area. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar in late afternoon.

After lunch head back to Sainshand, visit the Museum of Danzanravjaa. Departure to Ulaanbaatar on train.

Day 1 Middle Gobi. After an early breakfast leave UB for our camp in the Middle Gobi. Picnic lunch. On the way visit Baga Gazriin Chuluu Lake and the ruins of the 10th century Sum Khukh Burd temple on an island in the middle of the lake. Overnight in traditional and comfortable gers at the camp.
Day 2 South Gobi / Flaming Cliffs. Breakfast at the camp. Continue to drive towards the South Gobi. On the way visit the Sangiin Dalai temple in Erdenedalai, one of the few monasteries and temples that survived the communist purges of the 1930s. Have packed lunch on the way and arrive at ger camp at Flaming Cliffs.  Have dinner and overnight at ger camp.
Day 3 South Gobi / Yoliin Am. After breakfast visit the famous Flaming Cliffs (Bayan Zag), the site of numerous fossil discoveries by paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews and others. Afterwards drive to Yol Valley. After lunch visit the stunning Yol Valley (Vulture Valley) National Park for hiking and opportunities to photograph the gorge, the Gobi Glacier and the diverse local wildlife. Overnight in ger camp.
Day 4  South Gobi / Hongoryin Els. After breakfast drive to Hongoryn Els Sand Dunes. In the afternoon you will make excursion to Seruun Bulag spring (oasis near the dunes) and walk on the towering of famous Khongoriin Dunes. Known as the Singing Sands for the noise the sands make in high winds. Spend the day exploring the dunes and hiking in the area. Overnight in ger camp.
Day 5 Ongyn Khiid. Start driving towards Karakorum. Stop for the night in our ger camp near Ongyn Khiid and visit a ruin of monastery. Overnight at ger camp.
Day 6 Karakorum. Continue driving to Karakorum, with a packed lunch on the way. Arrive at the ancient city of Karakorum in the late afternoon. Overnight in the ger camp.
Day 7 Ulaanbaatar. After breakfast visit Erdene-Zuu, once one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia and almost totally destroyed in the 1930s. Tour of the monastery grounds and several chapels with excellent examples of Buddhist iconography dating from the 16th century. Visit to the symbolic ruins of Karakorum, the 13th century imperial capital of the Mongol Empire. Then drive back to Ulaanbaatar and transfer to hotel.
