BANANUE - with the main attraction in the area , the Banaue Rice terraces has been named as the ‘eighth wonder of the world’. Constructed about 3,000 years ago the terraces start from the base of the Cordillero Mountains and extend upwards for thousands of feet, stretch like stepping stones to the sky - some reaching an altitude of 1500m (4920ft). It is considered as one of mankind's greatest engineering feat. If the terraces were laid end to end, they would stretch half way around the world.
There are more terraces at Batad village, which also sports a waterfall and natural swimming pool, and at Sagada there are a series of ancient burial caves in the mountainside with the famous ‘hanging coffins’ perched on limestone outcrops. Banaue , although a bit far from Manila is one of the most awesome destinations in the Philippines Visitors will never regret spending time and resources to see its beauty and grandeur .
