LANGUAGES
Two official languages --- Filipino and English. Filipino which is based on Tagalog, is the national language. English is also widely used and is the medium of instruction in higher education.
Eight (8) major dialects spoken by majority of the Filipinos: Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon or Ilonggo, Bicol, Waray, Pampango, and Pangasinense.

EASTERN SAMAR (Borongan City) - Aside from being the home of Homonhon Island, where Ferdinand Magellan and his men first set foot on Philippine soil, Eastern Samar also boasts of pristine beaches ( San Juan Beach, Guintagican Beach, Sapao Beach among others) and Hamorawon Spring which legend has it that whoever takes a bath in the cool spring will surely go home with a Boronganon wife. Calicoan Island one of the newest attraction being promoted these days.

LEYTE - The provice of Leyte is the home of a monument that marks the spot where General Douglas MacArthur landed with the American Liberation Forces in 1944. It is also the home of the Pintados Festival which is a dance festival of painted dancers depicting their own folk practices and beliefs and of the violin shaped Lake Danao.
The rich province of southern Leyte in Limasawa Island, where the first Christian mass in the Orient was celebrated. From this the Sinugdan ensued, literally meaning beginning, it is a cultural presentation and anniversary program which celebrated a historical and religious event. Aside from its historical importance, Limasawa Island is also famous as a divers paradise boasting of magnificent walls and sheer drop offs decorated with lovely coral formations.
