Bruxelles-Babel
Belgium (Brussels ) 7-9 April 2005 (Every year)
Two hundred and fifty children from all over Brussels put on a lively
show at the Marni Theatre during the Festival Bruxelles-Babel. This
is the 20th edition of the event, aimed at 12 to 21-year-olds from
a variety of cultural and social backgrounds. This year's theme is
Histoire d'aimer, Histoires d'amour, literally, stories of loving,
stories of love. |
Art Brussels

Art Brussels, first organised in 1968, has grown into a large and
highly-respected international art fair, renowned for its high standards
and cutting-edge profile. The fair presents 150 galleries at Brussels
Expo, and 25,000 art lovers, professionals and collectors are expected

The Baroque Spring of the Sablon
Belgium (Brussels ) 17-24 April 2005 (Every year)
There can be no better location for this month-long Baroque festival
than the beautiful public and private premises in and around Place
du Grand Sablon in the centre of Brussels. Baroque and medieval architecture
are the prominent features of this square in Brussels' richest quarter.
In April, these buildings are home to the soaring music of Corelli,
Handel, Pergolesi, Couperin and Marais. |
From Cézanne to Dubuffet

The famous Planque collection is one man's testament to his passion
for 20th-century art. Displayed in the Museum of Ixelles, the collection
includes works by Van Gogh, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Klee, Sam Francis,
Cézanne and Dubuffet. |
Laeken Glasshouses Open to the Public
Belgium (Brussels) 25 April - 14 May 2005 (Every year; not Mon)
The jewel within the Belgian Royal Parks, the Laeken Glasshouses were
built in the 19th century by King Leopold II to house his collection
of plants from the Congo. Using the wealth from his new colonies,
the monarch commissioned a "City of Glass" from architects
Balat and Horta. |
VW Spring Sessions
Belgium (Brussels ) 15 April - 15 May 2005 (Every year)
Jazztronaut launched the VW Spring Sessions in 1998. Now a key event
in the annual calendar, this nationwide event features some 20-25
concerts spanning popular jazz, Latino, Afro-cuban, pop, world music
and chanson. The Palais des Beaux-Arts and Ancienne Belgique host
gigs in Brussels. |
Singular Visions

The Singular Visions exhibition at Brussels' Palais des Beaux-Arts
presents a series of works from different creative workshops taken
by mentally ill and mentally handicapped individuals. |
The Private Magritte

This gentle and poetic collection of photographs, presented at Brussels'
Palais des Beaux-Arts, retraces the life and art of the Belgium Surrealist
René Magritte. |
Two Cultures in One - Jews of Morocco

This exhibition, presented in the newly-opened Jewish Museum of Belgium,
showcases a selection of objets d'art from the Dahan-Hirsch collection,
the most important private collection of Moroccan judaica in the world. |

Romanticism in Belgium

Celebrating the 175th anniversary of Belgian independence,
this imposing exhibition at the Museum of Fine Art examines the little-known
period of Belgium Romanticism, with more than 200 paintings on display. |

Formerly known as Walibi Wavre, Six Flags Belgium theme
park in Wavre near Brussels offers a day out filled with fun for
the whole family, featuring Loony Toon characters including Bugs
Bunny and Sylvester, live shows, a water park and 20 rides ranging
from the mildly exciting to the totally terrifying!

Memory of Congo
Belgium (Brussels) 4 February - 9 October 2005 (not Mon)
The Memory of Congo exhibition displays objects, artwork, documents
and shorts at the Royal Museum of Central Africa, revisiting the controversial
period of the Congo Belge. With the current political turmoil in the
Democratic Republic of Congo, this exhibition and the ensuing debate
on colonial legacy is particularly meaningful. |
Flanders Festival
Belgium (Various towns) 22 March - 23 October 2005 (Every year)
One of Europe's major classical music festivals, the Flanders Festival
brings 350 concerts to the area. Key towns participating in the Festival
van Vlaanderen include Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp, Ghent and Flemish
Louvain, each with their separate festival under the larger umbrella. |
Made in Belgium
Belgium (Brussels) 7 March - 31 December 2005 (Every year; not

In 2005 Belgium celebrates the 175th anniversary of its independence.
To mark the occasion, Brussels' Deixa Art centre is hosting the 300-day
long exhibition, Made in Belgium. |
Mini-Europe
Belgium (Brussels) 19 March 2005 - 9 January 2006 (Every year)
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the world around you? This is your
chance to feel big and to tower over the whole of Europe. Located
at the foot of the Atomium, Mini-Europe faithfully reproduces the
distinctive cities and sites of Europe to a distance that can be comfortably
walked in an hour or so. One of Brussels' top attractions, it has
drawn over three million visitors since its opening. |
