HOTEL FACILITIES & SERVICES: At
the foot of Elisabeth Bridge, on the Pest Danube embankment,
the restaurant named after Mátyás, the great
king of Hungarians, opened in 1904. When innkeeper Mátyás
Baldauf opened the restaurant he could hardly have expected
his restaurant to become a legend. Very soon the locals became
fond of the place, and it quickly built up many regular guests.
This range of guest expanded to tourists, foreign celebrities,
stars and statesmen after the Second World War. The exclusive
list includes Grace Kelly, Andrzej Vajda, Roger Moore, Hanna
Honthy, Vittorio Gassmann, Albert Szent-Györgyi, Gilbert
Bécaud, Miklós Jancsó, Mark Spitz, Giulietta
Masina and Federico Fellini. In the evening one of the world's
most famous Gypsy violinists, Sándor Déki Lakatos,
and band perform for guests. Sándor plays for our guests
only in Hungary. Half
board for groups can be provided in the hotel by prior arrangement.
