The river Arade was once an important highway for trade from the inland city of Silves past the fishing village of Portimão to the ocean. The little village of Mexilhoeira da Carregação clo se to the mouth of the river was then an important centre for processing and canning fish. Even today the village retains its character and charm, and it is here, on the river bank, that Boca do Rio Resort offers all the luxury and comfort of today whilst recognising and respecting the traditions of the past.

The International Airport of Faro is just 75 kms away, and Lisbon is less than 300 km. Upriver is the historic city of Silves, a former Moorish capital and mineral trading centre, while downriver the closest beaches – at Ferragudo and Praia da Rocha – are just five minutes on the exclusive catamaran river taxi. For golf lovers, the courses of Penina and Carvoeiro (Gramacho and Pinta) are within very easy reach.
From Faro airport to Boca do Rio Resort
Exiting the Faro International Airport, follow directions to Portimão through the nearest Motorway, “Via do Infante” or “A22”. More or less 70Kms ahead, exit where it signs “Lagoa”, and again “Lagoa Sul”. You’ll be driving on the “E.N. 125 – secondary route.
Exit E.N.125 just before the bridge were it signs “Estômbar and Ferragudo”, and in the first roundabout, turn right, having the Resort in 400Mts at your Right side, in the town`s main Square.
