HOTEL DESCRIPTION

Set on the cliff tops overlooking the Bay of Funchal and the Atlantic, Reid's Palace Hotel has, for over 100 years, been a standard-bearer for excellence on Madeira and beyond.

Voted 13th in the “Top 25 Europe Resorts” in the Condé Nast Traveler (US) 2005 Awards.

Madeira and the neighbouring island of Porto Santo are situated in the Atlantic off the West African coast, just north of the Canaries. Madeira is 36 miles long and 14 miles wide and has a population of approximately 300,000. 

Porto Santo, 74 kilometres North East of Funchal, is much smaller - only nine miles long and three miles wide. The main attraction is an eight-kilometre long, white sand beach, in contrast to Madeira's breathtaking volcanic rock shoreline.

ROOM FEATURES

Reid's Palace Hotel has 130 rooms and 34 suites, each one individually decorated in delicate pastel tones and offering elegance and luxury with the emphasis on traditional style with modern comforts.  Elaborate marble bathrooms and vanity units and, in the newly refurbished rooms and suites, crisp white embroidered bedspreads echo the traditions of which Reid's Palace is very proud.

Wicker tables and chairs on the balconies and terraces are carefully placed for guests to enjoy the superb views of the Atlantic.

SUPERIOR AND PREMIER ROOMS

Superior Double and Twin Rooms

Most of our Superior rooms are located in the Garden Wing, with some also in the Main Building. All Superior Rooms in the Main Building are decorated with light and fresh fabrics to harmonise with the original Anglo-Portuguese furnishings. The interior colours are a reflection of the sparkling views of the Atlantic Ocean from the hotel's French windows and complement the original carved wood antiques.

On the second and third floor of the Garden Wing you will find our Superior rooms are very different to the other rooms, here the accent is on a light and stylish feel, with pale woods and colour co-ordinated contemporary fabrics and carpets. The first floor rooms in the Garden Wing are larger with spacious terraces and direct garden access. The charming view from these rooms is of sunlight reflecting off the turquoise waters of the bay of Funchal at the end of our gardens.

Premier Double and Twin Rooms

Most of our Premier rooms are located in the Garden Wing and some in the Main Building. All Premier rooms in the Main Building are decorated in the same light and fresh fabrics as the Superior Rooms. Slightly larger than the Superior Double Rooms with a better view over the gardens to the sea.

Some of our rooms located on the Main Building ground floor also offer medium covered terrace and direct access to the palm garden.

JUNIOR SUITES

Our Junior Suites are located in the Main Building and in the Garden wing.  Elegantly furnished and decorated with light and fresh fabrics, they offer comfortable seating and a spacious bedroom over an area of 35 to 40 m².  The luxurious well-appointed bathrooms are decorated with Portuguese tiles. 

The large balconies provide an exceptional sea view.

SUPERIOR SUITES

Most of our Superior Suites are located in the Main Building and in the Garden Wing, offering large balconies with breathtaking views over the gardens and/or the Bay of Funchal. 

The separate living area and bedroom are organised over a generous 40 to 45 m² and decorated with light and airy fabrics.  The bedrooms are king or twin bedded and the sitting room has a writing desk and a comfortable chair and sofa.

EXECUTIVE SUITES

Located in the Main Building, these attractive and spacious suites offer two rooms, with a large bedroom and a large living room. 

In addition there is a kitchenette for your private comfort and convenience. 

Two of our suites are uniquely situated in a very quiet, secluded location within the hotel including a private entrance.  From these suites you can enjoy the magnificent views over the gardens to the Atlantic ocean.

The remaining two suites have been beautifully decorated with light and fresh fabrics to harmonise with the original Anglo-Portuguese furnishings.  Offering spacious and luxurious bathrooms decorated with Portuguese tiles and superb sea view through the garden which you can enjoy from the large balconies.

Located in the main building, these suites measure approximately 50 to 55 square metres.

PRESIDENTIAL SUITES

Here at Reid's Palace we have two exquisite Presidential Suites: the Churchill Suite and the George Bernard Shaw Suite, both named after the great men who stayed in them.

Located in the Main Building, both of these two beautiful suites, renovated with light and fresh fabrics and Chinese hand-painted wallpapers with wild silk curtains, offer one spacious bedroom, with its large bathroom, and a very large sitting room.  

The beautiful and generously sized bathroom is exquisitely finished and decorated with Portuguese tiles.  In addition, the suites have a separate toilet, a kitchenette for your private comfort and convenience, and caricatures of Winston Churchill and George Bernard Shaw.  The high ceiling retains their original features. 

These suites measure approximately 80 m².

The very large covered balconies offer superb views through the gardens to the glistening sea on the horizon.

DINING

Reid's Palace offers an excellent variety of restaurants in which to relax and socialise in the utmost comfort. Enjoy breakfast in the Garden Restaurant, or a lunch buffet in the Pool Terrace. During the warmer months, dine under the stars in Brisa do Mar and enjoy creative French cuisine and the stunning views over the sea or dine in an elegant atmosphere with live music in The Dining Room. Savour Italian cuisine at Ristorante Villa Cipriani, overlooking the Atlantic, or just relax in the privacy of your own room and take advantage of our room service. Reid's Palace also offers an inviting choice of lounges and a bar in which to relax and socialise in the utmost comfort and elegance.

LEISURE

Reid's Palace offers a variety of facilities and activities to enjoy. Take an invigorating dip in one of our three swimming pools or enjoy the many water sports and outdoor activities available.

Madeira is the closest subtropical island to northern Europe at a distance of only three and a half to four hours' flying time.

Facilities Reid’s is a traditional deluxe resort, where many sport and leisure facilities are at your disposal. There are 3 seawater pools (2 heated 76/84ºF), one located at the sea level platform (with direct access to the ocean) and two by the Pool Terrace. The hotel also offers two tennis courts (free of charge), a sauna, windsurfing (free of charge during summer), fishing, scuba diving, billiards and Levada walks. For Golf enthusiasts, the 27 hole Santo da Serra and the similar 18 hole golf course Palheiro Golf, just fourty and twenty minutes from Funchal, respectively. Dancing classes, Portuguese classes, Wine tasting, and Aqua-gym are also available. There is also a small gymnasium, which is composed of a treadmill, rowing machine, steps and weights. Excursions can be arranged by our guest relation. Reid's Boutique is located on the fifth floor of the main building and offers a wide selection of small presents and souvenirs. Golf Although one may not immediately consider Madeira ideally suited for golf - because of its mountains and forests - it still boasts 45 holes of championship standard.

Tennis Two all weather and open air tennis courts of which the use is free of charge, as well as the equipment.

Water Sport Windsurfing, deep sea fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving, motor boat, whale and dolphin watching are all available.

Deep Sea Fishing Explore the rich ocean that surrounds the island, whether using our expertise to land marlin or tuna, trawling the coast for barracuda and snapper, or discovering the crystal clear waters.

Horse Riding There are trails to suit every degree of equestrian skill, weaving among vegetation, flowers and beautiful landscapes.

Hiking Madeira offers a huge variety for the walker, with paths following the Levada irrigation channels right to the most hidden and magnificent spots in the island.

Active Sport There are a number of active sports you can partake in around Reid's Palace and Madeira, including helicopter tours, toboggan rides and hang-gliding.
