HOTEL DESCRIPTION: Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'.
To suit its location slightly away from the city centre, Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia that owner Peter Taylor has collected over the years. There are 41 hotel rooms at Channings in all - no two are quite the same, in either layout or decor. One of the Channings townhouses, 14 South Learmonth Gardens, was home to Sir Ernest Shackleton, the Antarctic explorer, while he was secretary of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society between 1904 and 1910. We have named our top-floor hotel suites after Shackleton and his fellow adventurers, and are proud to display prints of black-and-white photographs that were taken on the expeditions, and a copy of a journey planner.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION: Channings Unique Bedrooms: Hotel rooms at Channings in Edinburgh, Scotland differ from each other in style but not in content. Some have sweeping Edwardian windows overlooking Edinburgh's urban village of Stockbridge, all have antique furniture and one-off prints, drawings and quirky memorabilia. We can do double or twin rooms, traditional or more contemporary: you'll be greatly impressed with this hotel's flexibility.

Superior Bedrooms: Relax in a superior room at Channings... As with all the hotel rooms at Channings in Edinburgh, our Superior Rooms are a creative mix of antique and contemporary, with individual styling and quirky detail. After all, every visitor to Scotland is different from the next, so we have mixed up the styles a little. Our Superior hotel rooms are typically larger than the Unique Rooms and have more spacious bathrooms, some with Jacuzzi baths, and the best views of Edinburgh.  One has a four-poster bed and belongs in the pages of a country-house magazine; equally we can offer something a little more pared-down, or bolder, or more contemporary, if that is your preference.

Shackleton Bedrooms: In recognition of the great Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, who lived at 14 South Learmonth Gardens, one of the Channings townhouses, we have created three wonderful, oversized Shackleton Suites and two (slightly smaller) Shackleton Rooms. Each of the Shackleton Suites was previously two hotel rooms, with views out over the rooftops of Edinburgh, so the new suites and bathrooms are generously proportioned, and have rolltop baths and walk-in showers. Contemporary styling uses bold colour, striking black-and-white photography of Shackleton's expeditions to the coldest places on earth, and underfloor heating to ensure you stay a lot warmer than he did - even during the winter in Scotland.

Channings Suites: Channings Hotel in Edinburgh has six luxury suites, each with private drawing room, separate bedroom and large bathroom (separate bath and shower). All the suites have great views, either over the western part of Edinburgh or the hotel's own private gardens. As with most of the hotel rooms at Channings, the suites contain a mix of antique furniture, prints, drawings and memorabilia; but also use rich, contemporary fabrics to create interiors that are striking, beautiful and ultimately very relaxing. Just what a hotel room should be, and a great way to visit Scotland's capital city.

Channings Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland has 41 friendly, comfortable rooms, each with its own quirky style and point of difference from the next. We've paid great attention to detail, providing free internet access in all the rooms and spare blankets - as well as all the extras you expect to find in a well thought-out hotel room.

Guests who return time after time love the informality, the welcome, the location in Edinburgh's 'urban village' of Stockbridge, and the fact that, with a wide variety of hotel room styles here, they can find just the accommodation they're looking for in Edinburgh.

Space
Channings Hotel comprises five informal Edwardian townhouses on the edge of Edinburgh's city centre. One of these, 14 South Learmonth Gardens, was home (April 1904 - July 1910) to the Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his wife, Emily; their former reception rooms now form our Meetings and Events Suite. We hope that Shackleton's enterprising spirit and leadership skills will prove an inspiration when it comes to taking the Kingsleigh and its adjoining Library for your own meeting, conference or special occasion.

In addition, the Channings Conservatory Restaurant and Wine Bar are offered for exclusive use, subject to availability.
