Holidays in Scotland

Holidays in Scotland are now the responsibility of the Scottish Executive. Traditional observance of holidays differs from England and Wales: many areas of Scotland have their own local holidays which do not correspond to the dates of any national days; and fewer commercial organizations observe the national days. In recent years the banks in Scotland have all agreed to close on English Bank holidays, but this is not general practice.

The official dates differ slightly from England and Wales:

There is an extra day on the day after New Year's Day. This is officially known as "2nd January", but it is taken on the 3rd or 4th if New Year's Day is at a week end. Unofficially it's known as "Hangover Day", but I would recommend that you don't tell this to the Scot standing next to you at the bar.
There is no official holiday on Easter Monday.
The Summer Holiday is taken on the first Monday in August rather than the last.

Public Holidays: Public holidays observed in Scotland are the same as those observed in the rest of the UK (see the main United Kingdom section) with the addition of:
