HOTEL DESCRIPTION: Melvin House was built in 1883 by renouned architect Sidney Mitchell for John Ritchie Findley, founder of our National Newspaper "The Scotsman". In the 1930’s the building served as residence to the young ladies of Queen Margaret College “Domestic Science Institute” before being passed to the National Health Service as a Conference Centre in the 1960’s. Now , the House has been transformed to a wonderful Town House Hotel - the elegant public rooms having been restored to their former Victorian Splendour. We have an excellent location in the heart of Edinburgh’s fashionable West End within easy walking distance of the famous Princes Street Shopping area and all the city attractions.

Spacious public rooms on the ground and first floors lead to twenty two en-suite bedrooms all serviced by an elevator. The rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard with views of Edinburgh castle to the front and the Kingdom of Fife to the rear. NB we ask guests not to smoke in the bedrooms !
