THE HISTORY OF HOTEL& HOSTEL SPORT

The Hotel was built in several stages. The first building was built in the second half of the 19th century. The hall was added in the years 1889-1906. In those times it was the only hall in Postojna in which many events took place (associations meetings, New Year and carnival parties, dramas, different conventions and elections,...).

In the year of 1925 a second floor of the hall building was build. Firstly it was known as the National hotel, later on hotel Javornik and lastly Hotel Sport, it has always been profitable. Situated in a central traveling location it used to accommodate 200 people at a time. More or less it was occupied by foreigners and very often from the Czech Republic, but also many celebrities and politicians came to stay (Greek king Paul, Russian and Polish princes and later in the Italian era many Italian generals), who came to the border city of Postojna.

In the year 1992 Hotel Sport was closed and by the end of 2004 the renovation had started. In May 2005 the first part of the hotel was totally renovated into the modern and well equipped Hotel & Hostel Sport. Next season the other 2 parts will be finished into a cozy Hotel & Hostel Sport with 184 beds. There is also the renowned restaurant hall which used to be the only one in Postojna years back and still has the reputation of the best balls and parties in the area. The hall will probably serve for low budget congress tourism as well.

LOCATION: Hotel & Hostel Sport offers modern & comfortable accommodation in a 2 star hotel and high standard hostel. Together there are 70 beds. It is located near the centre of town and is only 1km from the natural attraction Postojna cave, which is one of the most famous caves in the world. There is plenty of possibilities in and around Postojna for outdoor activities and sightseeing. There is also a variety of natural and cultural attractions, recreational and sports activities on offer to help you to get to know the specific landscapes and Karst of Notranjska and of course tasting the fine home cuisine.

ACCOMMODATION: Hotel Sport Hotel & Hostel Sport has 10 hotel or private rooms, decorated in a modern style. All the rooms have double bed with extra bed on top, en-suite bathroom with wc and shower. Hostel Accommodation is possible in 5 units with 8 beds each. All units are divided into 2 rooms: first room has a double bed and is connected to the other room which has 3 bunk beds. All units have en-suite bathroom with wc and shower.

Hotel rules of Hotel & Hostel Sport

All the guests have to respect the house rules Check - in: 1 pm, Check-out: 11 am. Breakfast is from 7:00 am- 9:00 am. Please avoid making noise after 10 pm. Do not disturb other guests. The common rooms should be kept tidy at all times. Please consider all personell instructions. Smoking is allowed in smoking areas only or in rooms for smorkers. We kindly ask you to lock the rooms and leave the key at the reception desk. Pets and other animals are not allowed in the Hotel & Hostel. The Hotel & Hostel is not responsible for money and valuables in the rooms, only for those deposited in the safe deposit box. Bringing your own food and drink to the rooms is not allowed. Eating and drinking in rooms is not allowed. Using and dealing drugs inside the Hotel & Hostel is not allowed. We kindly ask you not to take the hotels towels and other hotel stuff with you.
