Armenia City Tours & Excursion Description

On this tour we visit the center of the Armenian church, Echmiadzin Cathedral, the most ancient Christian temple of Armenia and one of the first temples in all Christendom. The first stone in the base of this temple, as the legend goes, was put in 301 by St. Gregory the Illuminator – the first Armenian Patriarch. Examine the site of the pagan temple found beneath the altar and the Treasury. Continue your journey to St. Gayane and St. Hripsime churches, named after two virgins, Christian martyrs. The next stop of this day full of impressions is Zvartnots, an outstanding architectural ensemble dating back to the 7th c.

On this tour, start the journey in the region of Kotayk, see the magnificent view of Mount Ararat through the Arch of Charents, visit the temple of Garni, the unsurpassed work of architecture built by Kind Trdates I, examine the ruins of mosaic ancient baths and Garni Fortress. Head further to the western slopes of the mount and reach Amberd, a medieval fortress built in 11th c.

Head for the town of Dilijan described best by the words of the poet “if there were woods, mountains and mineral springs in paradise, the paradise would look like Dilijan …”. Monastery of Haghartsin, an important centre of medieval culture and education is the next stops of this trip.

On this day we will head for Mount Aragats, a solitary extinct volcano, the highest mountain in Armenia and Transcaucasia. Its alpine landscape with pure mountain air and shine of pristine lakes is very beautiful. The first stop of our trip will be Stone Lake (3,200 m). The legend says this lake was formed by the tears of Mount Aragats. After rest in this beautiful place we will continue our way and ascend the Southern peak of the Mount (3,879 m). On our way back we will visit Amberd, a medieval fortress built in 11th c.
