Sioni Cathedral, the main cathedral of Georgia built in the 6th cent. It was destroyed several times as a result of wars, so it has several construction layers. One of the Holy relics of Georgian people, cross of Saint Nino, enlightener of Georgia is kept in this temple.
-Mtatsminda – “Holy Mountain” is at the altitude of 729 m above the sea level, with a leading position over the city. The first name dates back to the 6th cent and is linked with the name of monk David who according to the legend led a secluded life there. Near the Saint David’s church there is a pantheon of famous Georgian public figures. From the top of the mountain one may observe the magnificent view on the while city. -Metekhi church, 5th cent is one of the most important architectural monuments of old Tbilisi. Its name connected with the name of Vakhtang Gorgasali, founder of Tbilisi. His statue is erected near the church. The decoration of the church involves Georgian national motives and traditions and technically well done. -Anchiskhati basilica church, constructed in 6th century is one of the oldest churches of Georgia. The first foundation dates back to 4 century and is connected with the adoption of Christianity in Georgia. -Old Sulphur Baths are founded on the spot of natural warm sulphur waters which have curative properties. Near the old construction built in oriental style two centuries ago are located modern blocks with wide choice of bathrooms. Guests arriving in Tbilisi very much enjoys having baths and recover from sickness. -Museum of Fine Arts is located in the Freedom square, center of Tbilisi City. On the upper floors of the museum are displayed the masterpieces of the famous Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani and other well known artists of remote centuries. The most important part of the museum are represented by the Golden Treasury, which involves old golden icons. - State History Museum situated in the Rustaveli Avenue, Main Avenue of Tbilisi city presents vast collection of unique items of remote past of Georgia and neighboring countries beginning from the artifacts of Bronze age ending with the valuable jewelry and garments of Georgian noblemen. It has various departments with chronological sequence.
- Jwari Monastery was built in the 6th cent on the top of the mountain surrounded by magnificient scenery of Caucasian mountains which can be observed far away and view over Mtskheta. In Georgian language Jwari means Cross. According to ancient manuscripts Saint Nino brought the wooden cross to this place and since those times many people came here and worshipped God. Nowadays monks live and guard this monastery.-Samtavro Nunnery was built in 13 century near the small church named after Saint Niño. During her stay in Mtskheta she lived at that place under the bushes. GORI SIGHTSEEING /90 km/ FROM TBILISI
- Ateni Church was built in 7th cent in inaccessible woods slope of the mountain near Gori. Owing to its secluded location, many frescoes and ornaments are remained to our days. KUTAISI SIGHTSEEING /250 KM/ FROM TBILISI - Bagrati Church was built in 11 cent by king Bagrat III. It is distinguished by original style of architecture. Traditional Georgian ornaments are mixed with unique technique feature European monuments. It was heavily destroyed during Turkish invasion in 17 cent. Unfortunately the visitor may observe only ruins of this majestic construction.
- Motsameta monastery was built in 18 century. The name of the monastery “Martyrs” in Georgian is connected with the torture of two Georgian noblemen by Arab invaders who tried to force them to worship islam. The monastery is built on their burial place. TELAVI SIGHTSEEING /165 KM/ FROM TBILISI
-Alaverdi Cathedral, majestic huge construction in the Alazani valley was erected in 12 cent. Its name is connected with Josef Alaverdeli, one of the 13 Georgian priests who came from Syria after their education and founded many sacred places throughout Georgia. He was buried inside the church. As other churches of Kakheti region, Alaverdi cathedral is built with limestone and have simple strict decorative style.
