Location :
Located at the heart of Istanbul's historical peninsula, surrounded
by the ancient city walls and with views of two of the most magnificent
masterpieces of world architecture, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque,
Hotel Armada offers a unique experience to the visitor. Open for
service since 1994, the building was constructed on the site of
a series of row houses which were built for the marine soldiers
of the famed Ottoman Admiral Hayrettin Pasha (Barbarossa) in the
16th century.
In reconstructing the building old engravings depicting
the houses were used as the houses themselves were completely demolished
during a fire and Armada was designed to the facade architecture
of its original. Elements of modern comfort and convenience have
been carefully blended into the historical atmosphere both in the
exterior and in the interior design.
Accommodation
: The
rooms, decorated in the Ottoman style with traditional Edirnekari
woodwork painting, are a graceful blend of past and present
and offer all modern amenities; central heating and cooling,
direct dial telephone, minibar, cable television,hair dryers
and private safety boxes. There are 110 rooms, 16 of which are
interconnected and 2 are fully equipped for wheelchair access.
Hotel Facilities : The
Terrace is a beautiful, rooftop retreat with spectacular
views of the Sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus on one side,
and the Blue Mosque and the St. Sophia on the other. The Terrace
is open all summer as a restaurant and bar, where you can
enjoy a fine meal, relax with a drink, or just come to admire
the views. The Terrace (summer only) can host 250 people with
for dinner and 300 people for cocktail arrangements.
Armada Sera The magnificent views can also be enjoyed
during the winter in the glassed-in Sera Restaurant on the
terrace which serves traditional Istanbul cuisine in a beautiful
setting. The Sera can accommodate 80 people for dinner and
120 people for cocktail arrangements.
Ahirkapi Restaurant The Ahirkapi Restaurant has hosted
many local cultural events with its traditional Istanbul turn
of the century design and cuisine. Every weekend you can enjoy
live music from the Rembetiko group playing traditional turkish
and greek music, and an assembly of musicians playing "fasil"
traditional songs from Istanbul. Every sunday is "Tango
Night" when local people come to celebrate, dance, and
recapture the spirit of the 1930's, a time when the tango
was much loved by Istanbul citizens.
Radio Bar With its permanent display of 50s and 60s
radios the Radio Bar evokes the atmosphere of a bygone era.
Radio bar hosts special events such as birthday parties, special
parties.
Sabahattin, The Fisherman Sabahattin is originally
from Trilye (Zeytinbag, Mudanya) to the southeast of the Sea
of Marmara and comes from a family who appreciates the sea
and its fish. He now welcomes guests in this traditional wooden
frame house all year round, with his sons always at hand to
help him During the summer months, some of the tables
spill out onto the street.
Armada
Garden The garden of an old wooden house restored to revitalize
traditional Istanbul garden culture... There is a small fountain,
old style stone oven, and bay, mulberry and sour cherry trees
where you can sit and enjoy special grilled and oven baked
dishes while listening to live traditional Turkish music.
The Armada Garden (summer only) can seat 150 people for dinner
and 250 people for cocktail arrangements.
