Step inside the front door and you know you're somewhere special. This renovated 19th-century guesthouse has Ottoman style, with rugs and antiques throughout, but remains uncluttered. It's small, relaxed and a very welcoming option.

Accommodation : Hotel Turkoman, a few steps up from the Hippodrome, is right in the heart of the action but far enough away from the carpet shops to give you some breathing space. There's a range of 20 comfortable Ottoman-style rooms, many with brass beds, carpets and antiques.

All are beautifully clean. Pick of the bunch, Room 4a, with its own private balcony, is the perfect place to enjoy Blue Mosque views. The other big plus at Turkoman is the rooftop terrace with knockout views of the Princes' Islands. This is the superb setting for the buffet breakfast, but rise early to get the best seats in the house at the front of the terrace.

Hotel Facilities : Breakfast and twenty four hour bar service are offered on the terrace. Overlooking the ancient Roman Hippodrome, with its Egyptian Obelisk and Colossus, as well as the Blue Mosque and Sea of Marmara, the magical terrace is a lovely setting for drinks.

While our hotel has all the amenities and conveniences of 20-th century life, we strive, through the efforts and attitude of our staff, to recapture the spirit of an older way of living.
