The Wadi by Faldo
‘The Wadi by Faldo’, combines stunning visual design with
the nuances and challenges of any great championship golf
course, in just the right measure.
Born out of the 2006 redesign by Nick Faldo of its predecessor,
‘The Wadi’, which delighted players the world over for a
decade, ‘The Wadi by Faldo’ is a true test of golf for the
best of players and promises an enjoyably challenging round
for the handicap golfer.
In signature Faldo style, one of the main themes of ‘The
Wadi by Faldo’ is its dramatic bunkering. High flashes of
sand, visible from the tee all the way to the green, act
as a guide to the tee shots. With steep faces and long noses
on entry, each bunker has been designed, built and strategically
positioned to reward good and penalise wayward shots. Another
unique design aspect is the wadi (from the Arabic word valley)
that meanders along the length of the course, featuring
a striking roughed-up edge and adding a dash of extra character.
To the eye, ‘The Wadi by Faldo’ dramatically juxtaposes
the lushness of the fairways and tall majestic palm trees
against the stark, yet visually dramatic desert topography
and wadi. Also uniquely incorporated are the indigenous
Gaff trees that stand dotted along, and in some cases on,
the fairways.
Measuring just over 7,300 yards, ‘The Wadi by Faldo’ is
a real ‘thinkers’ course. Although its length requires strong
play, there are great rewards waiting for those who methodically
plot their way around, in true Faldo style!
