HISTORY OF POLO
Polo is widely regarded as the oldest game known
to man. The origins of the sport stretch so far back
that they are lost in the mists of antiquity. History
records that the ancient Persians played it 2,500
years ago while the Chinese lay claim to a Polo tradition
dating back several thousand years. In all probability
these ancient civilizations adopted the sport from
the Central Asian nomads who roamed the vast plains
of the continent on horse back.
Historical references to Polo date from the reign
of Alexander the Great when it served as a training
exercise for the Persian cavalry. As Alexander and
other conquerors swept across Asia, they carried the
game with them and it was in India, six centuries
later, that Polo was played for the first time by
British tea planters. They in turn brought the sport
back to England in 1869 from where the game began
its rapid ascent in popularity across the world -
an ascent that continues to this day.
THE MODERN GAME OF POLO
Polo is without a doubt one of the most exciting
sports in the world. No other game combines the grace
of equestrian pursuits and the skill of a ball game
with such thrilling results. The athletic ability
of the rider and the power of his mount come together
as two teams of four battle for supremacy on the field.
Speed, agility, strategy and of course goals, Polo
packs it all into 4 pulsating chukkas!
Often called the Sport of Kings, the game continues
to enjoy a strong following amongst the world’s
royalty. Whether it is played on the green fields
of England, the rolling Pampas in Argentina or under
the blue skies of Dubai, the rich and famous are always
in attendance.
However, despite its reputation as an elite sport,
Polo is played by more than 50 million people each
year across 77 countries. As testament to its growing
popularity, Polo has recently been recognised as an
Olympic sport by the International Olympic Committee
after an absence of over 70 years.

CAMEL POLO
Looking for a completely new experience? Something
you can do only in Dubai? Instead of the traditional
game played by individual players on horseback, try
Camel Polo, incorporating one of Dubai’s native
creatures? Played with rules similar to standard polo,
this version includes a few surprises and is easily
accessible to all skill levels.
You will receive polo mallet swing technique training
as well as tuition on how to successfully ride and
steer the camels. This is a great introduction to
interaction with the camels and is a key part of the
activity - as well as being amazing fun. After this
you will be equipped with all of the skills necessary
to battle it out “on the hump” in the
final chukka!
Played with groups of eight to sixty, Camel Polo
is ideal for a corporate teambuilding activity or
a day out with family and friends.
