Day 1: Frankfurt — Wiesloch (210 kilometres)
Depart from Frankfurt to pretty Rudesheim, where you have a short Rhine cruise, passing romantic castles perched on rocky hilltops. Enjoy a walking tour in ancient Heildelburg, a beautiful university town, before a welcome dinner. Overnight in Wiesloch.

Day 2: Wiesloch — Lake Constance (410 kilometres)
Visit Baden Baden, a delightful spa resort, and the Black Forest, where village craftsmen manufacture the famous cuckoo clocks. At Lake Constance, take a walking tour of picturesque Lindau, before your overnight stay in Bregenz.

Day 3: Lake Constance — Garmisch- Partenkirchen (170 kilometres)
Continue to Allgäu, with stupendous views of the Bavarian Alps, and visit the fairy tale Neuschwanstein Castle before travelling to the attractive Olympic town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where you stay overnight.

Day 4: Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Munich (130 kilometres)
Visit Linderhof Castle and the pretty mountain village of Oberammergau, famed for its Passion Plays. Overnight in Munich.

Day 5: Munich
A morning tour provides an enjoyable, informative introduction to this historic city. Overnight in Munich.

Day 6: Munich — Rothenburg (280 kilometres)
Visit Nuremberg and explore its mediaeval centre on a walking tour, before continuing your journey to the enchanting town of Rothenburg, where you enjoy a farewell dinner. Overnight in Rothenburg.

Day 7: Rothenburg — Frankfurt (200 kilometres)
En route to Frankfurt, you stop at Wuerzburg to visit the magnificent Residence, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. You arrive in Frankfurt in the afternoon for your departure flight.

Day 1: Munich
Pick up your rental car at Munich International Airport and head to your hotel before exploring quaint Marienplatz and perhaps taking a drink at Hofbräuhaus. Overnight in Munich.

Day 2: Munich — Salzburg (215 kilometres)
Depart for Salzburg via Herrenchiemsee, where you can cruise on the lake and visit the lovely castle. Continue via Kings Lake with its magnificent mountain panoramas. Overnight in Salzburg.

Day 3: Salzburg
Walk around ancient, cobblestone streets, visit Mozart’s birthplace, sample local sweets, or relax in one of the traditional cafés. Overnight in Salzburg.

Day 4: Salzburg — Vienna (295 kilometres)
Drive through superb scenery to Vienna, pausing at Melk where you can take a cruise on the Danube. Overnight in Vienna.

Day 5: Vienna
Vienna is full of history, style and splendid architecture. Stroll through the town centre with its imperial palaces, lovely cathedral and, of course, the elegant shops on Kärtnerstrasse. Overnight in Vienna.

Day 6: Vienna — Munich (440 kilometres)
Drive to Munich enjoying the Alpine landscapes en route. Overnight in Munich.

Day 7: Munich
We recommend a visit to King Ludwig II’s fairy tale castle at Neuschwanstein, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where you can travel by rope-railway to the peak of Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.

Day 8: Munich
Return your car in time for your onward flight.
