Day 1: Bangkok
Arrive at Bangkok’s Don Muang International Airport
and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day can be spent at
your leisure.
Day 2: Bangkok –
Phitsanuloke (430 kilometres)
Drive to Ayutthaya – the ancient capital of Siam and
on to Lopburi, where you see the magnificent stone carvings
of Phra Prang Sam Yod. Proceed on to Phitsanuloke and visit
the revered Buddha statue – Phra Buddha Jinaraj. Overnight
in Phitsanuloke.
Day 3: Phitsanuloke
– Chiang Rai (460 kilometres)
Explore the ruins of the temples and monasteries in the historic
city of Sukothai. This afternoon you drive through jungle-clad
hills to Chiang Rai. Overnight in Chiang Rai.
Day 4: Chiang Rai
Depart for Doi Mae Salong, a Chinese settlement founded by
Kuomintang soldiers who fled China after Mao Tse Tung’s
victory in 1949. Visit the Akha and Yao hill-tribe villages
before driving on to Mae Sai – Thailand’s northern-most
town. Then drive on to the heart of the renowned Golden Triangle
where the Ruak and Mekong rivers meet. Overnight in Chiang
Rai.
Day 5: Chiang Rai –
Chiang Mai (190 kilometres)
A scenic drive takes you to Chiang Mai, where you visit the
famous temple of Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. Tonight you enjoy
a ceremonial northern Thai Kantoke dinner. Overnight in Chiang
Mai.
Day 6: Chiang Mai
A full day to enjoy the city. Visit an elephant camp followed
by a visit to Sankampaeng, home to Chiang Mai’s famous
cottage industries. Overnight in Chiang Mai.
Day 7: Chiang Mai –
Bangkok
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Bangkok. In the
evening you could opt to enjoy a dinner cruise on the Chao
Phraya river. Overnight in Bangkok.
Day 8: Bangkok
The day is free to spend at your leisure. You could opt to
take a city tour or catch up on some last-minute shopping
before you transfer to Don Muang International Airport for
your return flight.
