the highest point of the UAE we then descend to the foot
of the mountain to our next stop the hot springs. We then
visit Al Ain's
museum next to the old fortress thereafter a stop by the
Al Ain Palace Museum. The palace was the residence of
the current ruler Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan from
1927 until the early 70’s. It is divided into two
sections: Sheikh Zayed’s or the men’s section,
and Sheikha Fatima’s or the women’s sections.
Both sections consist of a number of majlis, each one
used for a different purpose. Interesting displays, including
a collection of family portraits, offer an insight into
the way the Royal family lived and entertained. |

Our
route takes us to the magnificent Jumeira Mosque where
we stop to take a picture. In “Bastakia” we
stop for a while to admire the old wind-towered houses
built by wealthy merchants. Close by stands the 150 year
old Al Fahidi Fort. Here the Dubai Museum records the
city’s past as an important pearl diving and trading
Centre. We continue our journey by “abra”
– a local water taxi to our next destination, the
spice and gold “souks”.
The mysterious desert beckons for a magical evening out
– an adventure you’ll never forget. Leaving
behind the bustle of the city in the afternoon, our safari
guides will transport you, by four-wheel drive vehicles,
for a thrilling journey over rolling dunes, deep into
the heart of the desert. En route, you will stop to see
camels resting at their camp, and then, from the crest
of a high dune, watch the sun cast its orange glow over
the vast expanse of rippling sand all round you as it
sets. Like a shimmering mirage in the distance you will
see the flickering lights of your camp where a traditional
Arabian welcome awaits you.
The encampment conjures up images of the Arabian nights.
Relax on comfortable low cushions in Bedu tents and quench
your thirst, explore a traditional spice souk, have your
hands painted with intricate henna designs, experience
a short camel ride, or just enjoy the aromatic shisha.
A feast of grilled meats, fresh salads and delectable
Arab sweets is served and under a galaxy of stars, you
will be entertained by the bewitching belly dancer swaying
to the haunting strains of Arabian music. |

We
start at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Mohammed Al
Qassimi Mosque and walk along the Corniche, watching the
people working on the Dhows, on- and offloading goods
being transported in the very traditional way. Crossing
the road, we enter the Majarrah Souk, a wonderful example
of modern Arabic architecture, have a look around the
shops while walking past them and enjoy the relaxing temperature
and the typical smell of Arabic fragrances. In the direct
neighbourhood you find a lot of little shops selling all
kind of goods for the more modern day to day life. The
shop owners are mostly Iranians. While strolling along,
you might even find something you would like to take home.
A little further down the street we come across the old
Souq. Beautiful little stores, selling the very traditional
bits and pieces, traditional clothing for Him and Her,
the Kandoura, Agal, Gutrah and Kaffia or the Abaya, Sheila
and Sirwal. Take your time and even stroll through little
alleyways to get a feeling for it all. Continue your walk
towards Al Hisn Fort, home of the former ruler of Sharjah,
where a very interesting movie is shown about the history
of Sharjah as well as the very first Airport in the UAE.
Following a short stroll through Al Arsah Souq we visit
the Blue Souq, where more than 600 shops sell carpets,
gold, silver, antiques, perfumes, clothes and many other
temptations. From the souq we have a view of the King
Faisal mosque next to the Ittihad monument. |

Non
residents of the UAE can now be married in Dubai. There
is a new team in the Dubai Chaplaincy that is now able
to cope with tourist weddings in the United Arab Emirates.
Statuary requirements dictate that in order for a marriage
conducted in Dubai, to be considered legal in the United
Kingdom, British Citizens, are required to have their
ceremony conducted in the Anglican Church here in Dubai.
This can then be followed by a blessing at a chosen outside
venue i.e., desert, beach etc.
Non British Citizens may be married at a chosen venue
outside of the church and their marriage will be valid.
In
both instances, for all nationalities, it is recommended
that those planning to get married in the United Arab
Emirates should contact the Embassy of their country to
find out the particular requirements and regulations for
registering the proposed marriage in their home country.
Neither Arabian Adventures, Confetti Abroad, the Chaplain
nor the Chaplaincy Council, accept any responsibility
or liability as to the validity of any marriage solemnized
at Holy Trinity or Christ Church, and each and every individual
must satisfy themselves as to their own country’s
requirements and regulations.
There
is no residency period prior to the ceremony but a minimum
stay of 4 days (2 days prior and 2 days after the ceremony)
would give the couple enough time to be introduced to
the Reverend before the ceremony (which is compulsory),
check venue, have relevant documentation/certificates
processed. Please note that the Dubai weekend is Thursday
and Friday. The paperwork required after the ceremony
can not be processed on either of these days at the Government
Ministry’s.
Bookings
with the church can be made through Arabian Adventures.
British Citizens are required to have their wedding ceremony
in the church, first of all, so the marriage is legally
recognized. This can then, be followed by a blessing on
the beach or other chosen venue. Two witnesses are required
at the church service.
Couples
documentation should be forwarded to Arabian Adventures
at least one month prior to their arrival and proposed
wedding date.
