Non
residents of the UAE can now be married in Dubai. There
is a new team in the Dubai Chaplaincy that is now able
to cope with tourist weddings in the United Arab Emirates.
Statuary requirements dictate that in order for a marriage
conducted in Dubai, to be considered legal in the United
Kingdom, British Citizens, are required to have their
ceremony conducted in the Anglican Church here in Dubai.
This can then be followed by a blessing at a chosen outside
venue i.e., desert, beach etc.
Non
British Citizens may be married at a chosen venue outside
of the church and their marriage will be valid.
In
both instances, for all nationalities, it is recommended
that those planning to get married in the United Arab
Emirates should contact the Embassy of their country to
find out the particular requirements and regulations for
registering the proposed marriage in their home country.
Neither Arabian Adventures, Confetti Abroad, the Chaplain
nor the Chaplaincy Council, accept any responsibility
or liability as to the validity of any marriage solemnized
at Holy Trinity or Christ Church, and each and every individual
must satisfy themselves as to their own country’s
requirements and regulations.
There
is no residency period prior to the ceremony but a minimum
stay of 4 days (2 days prior and 2 days after the ceremony)
would give the couple enough time to be introduced to
the Reverend before the ceremony (which is compulsory),
check venue, have relevant documentation/certificates
processed. Please note that the Dubai weekend is Thursday
and Friday. The paperwork required after the ceremony
can not be processed on either of these days at the Government
Ministry’s.
Bookings
with the church can be made through Arabian Adventures.
British Citizens are required to have their wedding ceremony
in the church, first of all, so the marriage is legally
recognized. This can then, be followed by a blessing on
the beach or other chosen venue. Two witnesses are required
at the church service.
Couples
documentation should be forwarded to Arabian Adventures
at least one month prior to their arrival and proposed
wedding date.
