WEATHER AND CLIMATE IN KIRIBATI

Kiribati enjoys an "equatorial maritime" climate. Temperature throughout the day and night and most of the year varies little, averaging about 28 deg Celsius (86 deg Fahrenheit). Humidity is sometimes high but generally not extreme. Most of the time there is a cooling breeze from the easterly quarter.

The country does not experience tropical cyclones but does have strong winds and rain during the rainy season between December and March. Rainfall can be very irregular however and long periods of drought are not uncommon.

For visitors, the climate in Kiribati is not considered unduly taxing. Adjustment to the climate may take several months depending on what you have been accustomed to.

Bring only enough heavy clothing as you might need if travelling to countries with cooler climates after you leave Kiribati. In deference to the climate, dress standards in Kiribati are fairly casual by comparison to most western countries. Open-necked shirts, shorts and sandals/flip flops are the norm in most offices.
