The
island of Pohnpei and The Village Resort Hotel - one a creation
of Nature and the other of man influenced by Nature. Both lie beyond
the realms of the most idealistic imagination - yet together they
exist. The combination is so striking and yet so subtle that is
powerful environmental message is delivered gently, eloquently,
but without equivocation.
Bob
and Patti Arthur, an entertaining American couple who have written
themselves and their hotel into Pohnpeian folklore, built the entire
considerable complex of local materials and using timeless Pohnpeian
carpentry techniques. Built on and atop a steeply sloping lagoon
front site, The Village Hotel is amazing in its simplicity, yet
unbelievably comfortable and elegant.
The construction techniques may be rustic, primitive even, but the
results - understated luxury (remembering that luxury is relative)
of comfortable, individual huts built almost entirely from local
materials and mostly kept level on the steep hillside by stilts
on at least one corner. |

The
24 waterfront bungalow rooms are built of native mangrove
wood, and ideally suited to the tropical climate with spectacular
views experienced from every corner of the resort. The Front
Desk Staff can arrange all ocean and land tours including
car reservations.
Each
room has king or twin waterbeds, refrigerator, telephone,
private shower with unlimited hot water and private toilet.
All rooms are tastefully decorated with natural wicker furniture.
White laced curtains and laced mosquito nets hanging over
the beds add to the romantic atmosphere.
The
Executive Suite has twin waterbeds, and the Honeymoon Suite
has King Size Bed. Both suites are air-conditioned with color
cable TV, equipped with telephone and ceiling fans. A fully
stock Honor Bar and complimentary in-room coffee/tea helps
relax the weary executive or traveler. Other amenities include:
bathrobes, room slippers, air-dryers and full bathroom amenities. |

The Pwohmaria Beach Resort has the biggest restaurant on Pohnpei
- Misko's restaurant includes continental and Japanese cuisine,
as well as fresh island seafood. Guests can enjoy the Sunset
Dinner Buffet featuring fresh seafood, steak, and a variety
of local foods by making reservations at the hotel front desk
or at the restaurant. The Sunset Dinner Buffet includes entertainment
by local dancers.
At
Pwohmaria's Dejavu Bar & Lounge which is located by the
beach, guests can enjoy tropical drinks while watching the
sunset, reading, relaxing, or fishing off the pier in the
day. Aqua World Pohnpei Inc. is located at the resort. It
offers diving tours, fan diving, night diving, experienced
diving, and open water diving. The receptionist at the front
desk can arrange full tour service, diving, shopping, car
rentals or laundry services for guests. |
